Travel Rally, Parade and Press Conference Will Declare the
"Power of Tourism in New Orleans Day" Tomorrow;
Downtown Traffic to be Affected

Tuesday, May 12 is being declared the Power of Tourism in New Orleans Day by the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau as part of a nationwide campaign.  Hundreds of members of the hospitality community will converge on Canal Street Tuesday morning for a rally and parade to send a message to Congress and Louisiana legislators about the significance of tourism to New Orleans' economy.

Rally and parade participants will hold signs, second line, and dance to the sounds of musicians to celebrate and proclaim the importance of tourism--the largest industry in the U.S. and a critical economic driver for New Orleans, employing 78,000 people and creating billions of dollars in annual economic impact.  Among those scheduled to participate in the parade are Louisiana Congressman Joseph Cao, New Orleans City Council President Jackie Clarkson, City Council Vice-President Arnie Fielkow, Councilmember James Carter, and J. Stephen Perry.

DDD Public Safety Rangers and Block-by-Block Cleaning Ambassadors will march in the parade as a sign of the DDD's commitment to tourism and the hospitality industry in New Orleans.

The rally will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Canal and Bourbon streets and parade down to Spanish Plaza for a press conference scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Please be advised that traffic on Canal Street and adjoining streets will be affected during the parade.
